چکیده

Using the basis of Wannier states, we study the local dynamics of polarization gradient cooling for an atom driven on a Jg52→Je53 transition by a one-dimensional optical lattice. This analysis allows us to formulate a physical picture of the cooling mechanism, analogous to Sisyphus cooling for a Jg51/2→Je53/2 atom, which depends strongly on coherences in the Zeeman sublevels of the ground state. In addition, we are able to explain the steady-state properties of the laser-cooled atoms in a regime where the standard semiclassical analysis breaks down. @S1050-2947~97!50309-X#

Influence of Interface Thermal Resistance on Relaxation Dynamics of Metal-Dielectric Nanocomposite Materials under Ultrafast Pulse Laser Excitation

Nanocomposite materials, including noble metal nanoparticles embedded in a dielectric host medium, are interesting because of their optical properties linked to surface plasmon resonance phenomena. For studding of nonlinear optical properties and/or energy transfer process, these materials may be excited by ultrashort pulse laser with a temporal width varying from some femtoseconds to some hund...

Enhanced laser cooling and state preparation in an optical lattice with a magnetic field

We demonstrate that weak magnetic fields can significantly enhance laser cooling and state preparation of Cs atoms in a one-dimensional optical lattice. A field parallel to the lattice axis increases the vibrational groundstate population of the stretched state um5F& to 28%. A transverse field reduces the kinetic temperature. Quantum Monte Carlo simulations agree with the experiment, and predic...

Time dependence of laser cooling in optical lattices

We study the dynamics of the cooling of a gas of caesium atoms in an optical lattice, both experimentally and with 1D full-quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We find that, contrary to the standard interpretation of the Sisyphus model, the cooling process does not work by a continuous decrease of the average kinetic energy of the atoms in the lattice. Instead, we show that the momentum of the atom...

Theoretical comparison analysis of long and short external cavity semiconductor laser

In this paper, considering optical feedback as an optical injection, and taking in to account round-trip time role in the external cavity, a standard small signal analysis is applied on laser rate equations. By considering the relaxation oscillation (f2) and external cavity frequencies (f) ratio for semiconductor laser, field amplitude response gain, optical phase and carrier number for long ex...

Resolved-Sideband Raman Cooling to the Ground State of an Optical Lattice

We trap neutral Cs atoms in a two-dimensional optical lattice and cool them close to the zero point of motion by resolved-sideband Raman cooling. Sideband cooling occurs via transitions between the vibrational manifolds associated with a pair of magnetic sublevels, and the required Raman coupling is provided by the lattice potential itself. We obtain mean vibrational excitations n̄x ø n̄y , 0.024...
